A Noble Calling
Dear sisters and brothers in Christ Jesus,
“For the love of God is this, that we keep his commandments. And his commandments are not burdensome, for whoever is begotten by God conquers the world. And the victory that conquers the world is our faith.”
By virtue of our Baptism, we become members of the Body of Christ, the Church. This Body of Christ continues to carry out the work of Jesus on earth, spreading the good news of Jesus’ death and resurrection, healing the sick, giving comfort to the suffering, and casting out evil spirits. Though the Church has spread to the ends of the Earth, Her mission is not yet accomplished. In our post-Christian world, the message of Jesus is needed just as desperately as ever!
Jesus’ victory over sin and death began with His Incarnation, it was perfected in His Death and Resurrection, and it continues even now in the virtuous actions of His Body, the Church. How privileged we are to take part in the saving activity of Christ! We are anointed at our baptism as priests, prophets, and kings to offer our own small sacrifices, to spread the Gospel in our speech, and to exercise stewardship over the gifts He has entrusted us for His purposes. May everything we think, say, and do be worthy of such a noble calling.
Peace in Christ,
Father Matthew Kuhn
