Reflection for Wednesday, 18 March 2020
Dear sisters and brothers in Christ Jesus,
“For what great nation is there that has gods so close to it as the LORD, our God, is to us whenever we call upon him?”
Our God is not only near us, He is with us as one of us. Jesus, by His Incarnation made God one with humanity, inseparable forever. God is with us always, especially in times of struggle, like today. I hear the cries of the people of God in sorrow that they will not be able to receive the Eucharist for at least a month. I, too, was taken aback by this new development. How can we be an Ecclesia, the people of God gathered at prayer, when we cannot gather?
Be not afraid! God is with us, even when we are “socially distanced” from one another. When we pray together with our families in our homes, our domestic churches, God is present there. When we make a good Spiritual Communion, Jesus comes to us, regardless of distance. Jesus has carried his Bride, the Church, across the plagues and pestilences of the ages. We are in good hands, and God Is With Us whenever we call upon Him.
Peace in Christ,
Father Matthew Kuhn
