Coronavirus Update for St. Henry's and Holy Cross 3/18/2020

Dear sisters and brothers in Christ Jesus,

The past few days have been a surreal experience, as the coronavirus pandemic continues to alter our daily lives, even in Butler and Perham. As of Tuesday, March 17th, Bishop Kettler has suspended all public Masses in the Diocese of Saint Cloud through Monday, April 13th. (His announcements can be found at http://stcdio.org/coronavirus-update/) This includes public liturgies for Sundays, Holy Days, Holy Week, and Easter. Gatherings of more than 10 people are prohibited. This came much sooner than we could anticipate, and we are still trying to solidify what ministry will look like under these new conditions. We do this for the protection of those most vulnerable to COVID-19, so please be patient and bear with us in prayer. For now, these are my plans:

Holy Mass:

I will continue to celebrate Mass privately each day, and we will do our best to provide audio and video access to these Masses for you to participate from your homes. You are encouraged to make a Spiritual Communion daily along with these celebrations; in a situation like this, making a Spiritual Communion provides you with all the graces you would receive normally in receiving Jesus in Holy Communion. Links to audio and video recordings will be available on our website (www.parishfaith.com) as soon as possible.

Adoration and Church Access

St. Henry’s will remain open for private prayer each day according to our usual schedule. Tuesday-Wednesday Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament will continue as regularly scheduled. Holy Cross is, of course, always open for private prayer in front of the Blessed Sacrament.

We want to extend our hours of Eucharistic Exposition for Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament during this time. Michael Mettler, our Director of Music and Liturgy, will be arranging guardians for Sunday Adoration times from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. We also will do our best to extend Adoration during the week. I will also be available for Confession from 9 a.m. to Noon on Sundays during Adoration.

Confessions and Anointing of the Sick:

I will do my best to make myself available during office hours (9:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Tuesday-Friday) for Confessions, Anointing of the Sick, or just for counsel and support. If these times do not work for you, please call me to arrange another time. At present, I am still able to enter our hospital and care facilities for emergencies.

Stay tuned to www.parishfaith.com for additional updates and links to resources for you and your family. I will do my best to have daily reflections posted on the website in addition to the regular Sunday reflections. Additional resources including livestreams of Holy Mass are available on our Diocesan website www.stcdio.org, and www.ewtn.com, as well as the many resources provided at www.formed.org.

We are a people of hope, blessed with great creativity and adaptability. If you have any creative ideas for outreach and evangelization, please share them with us! May God provide us with all the gifts we need to continue to build up the People of God in these most interesting times.

Peace in Christ,

Father Matthew Kuhn
