A Word of Thanksgiving
Dear sisters and brothers in Christ Jesus,
“I will extol you, O my God and King, and I will bless your name forever and ever. Every day will I bless you, and I will praise your name forever and ever.”
We need to give thanks to God today. Today is the day for thanksgiving, and tomorrow, and every day. Far too easily we can fall into the trap of enjoying God’s gifts today and putting off giving thanks to some theoretical future day. It is as if we forget the gift-giver entirely. We should rejoice immediately upon receiving a gift, thank the giver, and give thanks for our relationship with the giver, too! Every moment of our lives is a gift from God; why make excuses and put off our thanksgiving for such a gift as life?
I am grateful to be pastor of such generous communities as Holy Cross and Saint Henry. The support you show for each other, and especially the way you rally around those affected by tragedies, inspires me and shows me God’s presence and activity here. The personal gifts, thank-you cards, and inspirational stories of growth and healing you have shared with me have continually built up my faith. Each day God gives me a multitude of reasons to give Him thanks for the gift you are to me and to each other.
I want to thank you in particular for the commitments you have made to the Led by the Light Campaign for St. Henry’s Area School, and for your renewed commitments of time, talent, and treasure in our Stewardship Sunday at St. Henry’s last weekend. Your commitments help us to plan well for the coming year and contribute to the outreach and evangelization we can accomplish as a Catholic community. Thank you, again, for your generous gifts! May we always remember to give thanks for God’s generosity and for the gifts God gives us through the work of good people around us.
Peace in Christ,
Father Matthew Kuhn
