“I prayed, and prudence was given me; I pleaded and the spirit of wisdom came to me.”
How often do we pray for virtues? We can be tempted to pray for our day to day physical needs, for healing, for financial help, and the like. Do we remember to pray for the spiritual gifts we need to carry out God’s will in our lives?
The Gifts of the Holy Spirit enable us to know God’s will and to carry it out; nothing could be more practical than this! If we are concerned with praying efficiently, these are the things for which we should ask. “Beyond health and comeliness I loved [wisdom], and I chose to have her rather than the light, because the splendor of her never yields to sleep.” The Holy Spirit’s Gift of Wisdom will guide us to seek the best things in life. We need Wisdom to see the big picture of God’s plan. We need Counsel to choose well with God. We need Courage to persevere in carrying out these godly choices.
God’s tools are way more powerful than ours, so take advantage of what God can do with you.
