For me the greatest joy of the Easter Vigil Mass is the look on the faces of those receiving Jesus in the Eucharist for the first time. They want Jesus. Their reverence for Our Lord renews my reverence for the Eucharist. Bringing the Blessed Sacrament to them is a great honor; watching the joy in their eyes as they receive Him reminds me of why I became a priest. That look, the look of true adoration, is so humbling! I wish we all could maintain that level of desire for Jesus each time we approach the altar.
This Easter Season, let us all reflect on the experience of these new Catholics. Let their example renew our reverence for the Blessed Sacrament and our joy at receiving Him Who died and rose again for us. We are blessed to be members of His Body, the Church, and doubly blessed to receive Him in the Eucharist. May we never take this privilege for granted.
