The Doxology of the Eucharistic Prayer could serve as a mission statement or rallying cry for the Church. Everything we do as Christians ought to be “through Him, and with Him, and in Him.” All of our actions should begin with the inspiration of the Holy Spirit and be performed in unity with Him. The Spirit unifies the actions of the Church, the Body of Christ. In the Spirit we are one with Jesus in His self-offering to the Father.
Our duty as members of Christ’s Body is to carry out His saving action until the end of time. We seek to proclaim as St. Paul recounts: “at the name of Jesus every knee should bend, of those in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” Thus our enthusiastic “Amen!” in response to the doxology affirms the universal anthem of all creation:
“Through him, and with him, and in him, O God, almighty Father, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, all glory and honor is yours, for ever and ever. Amen!”
