"We must obey God rather than men."
Dear sisters and brothers in Christ, "We must obey God rather than men." This was Saint Peter's eloquent response to the Sanhedrin when he was ordered to stop preaching in the name of Jesus. How fitting this response is for us today in the face of so many challenges to our faith! We find ourselves faced with a society that cannot see the world through any lens other than politics. We profess the dignity of every human person from conception to natural death and we are branded as conservatives; at the same time we fight to protect the rights of displaced peoples and migrants who seek safety in our lands, and we are called liberals. My dear friends, the call to follow Christ does not fit into the limits of political categories. Earthly politics are too small to encompass the heavenly calling of the Body of Christ, the Church. We follow the dictates of well-informed consciences and the guidance of Sacred Scripture and Tradition. We must obey God rather than men.
Peace in Christ, Father Matthew Kuhn
