The glory of Jesus’ Resurrection

Dear sisters and brothers in Christ,

We have a blessed perspective from which to view the events of the Sacred Triduum and Easter. We already know the glory of Jesus’ Resurrection.

With this hope in mind, we can endure the anxiety of the Last Supper and the Agony in the garden, the mockery of justice in the trials of Jesus before Annas, Caiaphas, Herod, and Pilate, and the sufferings of the Crucifixion of our Lord.

The Liturgies of Holy Thursday, Good Friday, and the Easter Vigil reflect this tempered sorrow, as we mark each step of Christ’s journey with the reception of Holy Communion. Each step of the way we are sustained by the Bread of Life. Even as we suffer in compassion with Jesus, we receive the fruits of His sacrifice. We look with sorrow upon Him who died to save us from our sins, and we are able to receive absolution in sacramental Reconciliation.

How blessed our perspective as we share in these sacred events! We look with hope upon the darkest moments of human history and we see Christ triumphant and risen in glory.

So now, as we look with joy upon the Resurrection of Jesus, let us go forth to proclaim the fulfilment of our hope in Christ Jesus our Lord. May the joys which we restrained during Holy Week now spring forth in fullness to gladden the people of God. And as we confront the dark moments that cloud our present days, both in our personal lives and in world events, let us remember that the victory of Jesus over sin and death will sustain us through these trails as well.

Peace in Christ, and Joy in His Resurrection,

Father Matthew Kuhn
