Reflection for Tuesday 24 March 2020

Dear sisters and brothers in Christ Jesus,

Jesus said to him, “Do you want to be well?”

God respects our freedom. Love cannot exist without freedom. We choose to make sacrifices of ourselves for the good of the other person. So before working this miraculous healing, Jesus asks the sick man, “Do you want to be well?”

Well, do we want to be well? Are we willing to let Jesus be Lord over us? Are we willing to accept His help, His healing? Are we willing to receive His love? Love is a two-way relationship, so we are bound to respond to Jesus’ love. We cannot simply receive; love demands a response from the beloved. If we truly want to be healed, we must also desire to have Christ change our lives. We have to want to be better for the future. This is why Jesus then says to the healed man: “Look, you are well; do not sin any more, so that nothing worse may happen to you.”

Peace in Christ,

Father Matthew Kuhn
